What's on My Plate?
|
The healthiest people that have ever lived or that live now on this planet follow(ed) a life style with little or no meat and/or dairy in their diet?
American meat consumption has more than doubled over this century and most of the major killing diseases have followed this trend?
Most of the transmittable diseases are carryable by meat and dairy products?
A high-protein diet (meat and dairy centered) causes calcium leaching from the bones, regardless of how much calcium is ingested?
Osteoporosis is epidemic in American culture because of excess protein in the American diet?
The grain and soybeans fed to U.S. livestock would feed more than 6 times the population of the U.S.?
Most of the cause of cancer is linked to a meat and dairy centered diet?
It is almost impossible to suffer from protein deficiency on a wide variety, plant-based diet?
Most of the worlds people are lactose intolerant.
Most Americans have bought into believing the BIG LIE that we have to have meat and dairy to fulfill our protein and calcium needs? |
These and many other startling distortions have lead the masses down the disease laden path -- also leading to memory loss, deteriorated immunity systems as well as a desensitization of our spirits.
The Lord makes it very clear that, "In consequence of evils and designs which do and will exist in the hearts of conspiring men in the last days, I have warned you, and forewarn you, by giving unto you this word of wisdom by revelation" for "the temporal salvation of all saints in the last days" (D&C 89:4,3) Using conspiring men, Satan has successfully inflicted our society with disease, early death and misery because of the false traditional diets which have found their way onto our plates.
"There is enough and to spare." (D&C 104:17) Given the current trends on the earth, most people perceive that there is not enough and to spare. Is the Lord wrong, or is the fault at our own feet? A meat and dairy centered diet is about ten times more taxing of the Earths resources than is a plant-centered diet.
The following quotes from the scriptures and statements of the prophets provide food for the soul. "The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish. The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant. Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left." (Isa. 24:4-6) "Shake thyself from the dust; arise, and sit down, O Jerusalem: loose thyself from the bands of thy neck, O captive daughter of Zion." (Isa. 52:5; 2 Ne. 8:25; 3 Ne. 20:37) Indeed, it is time for us to awake and arise; take off the shackles of our minds, our hearts and our souls, and remove the false traditions which bind us down. "And it came to pass that Enoch looked upon the earth; and he heard a voice from the bowels thereof, saying: Wo, wo is me, the mother of men; I am pained, I am weary, because of the wickedness of my children. When shall I rest, and be cleansed from the filthiness which is gone forth out of me? When will my Creator sanctify me, that I may rest, and righteousness for a season abide upon my face?" (Moses 7:48)
As we look toward a Zion society and being a millennial people, we can have great hope. We have His promise that the knowledge of the Lord will cover the earth as the waters cover the seas, and He will be in our midst. We will be His people and He will be our God, and surely this will be the happiest people who have ever dwelt on the face of the earth. "The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD." (Isa. 11:9; 65:25; 2 Ne. 21:9; 30:15)
Here are some statements regarding the millennial covenant: "And in that day will I make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven, and with the creeping things of the ground; and I will break the bow and the sword and the battle out of the earth, and will make them to lie down safely." (Hosea 2:18) "And I, God, said unto man: Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed,...and every tree in the which shall be the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. And to every beast of the earth and to every fowl of the air, and to everything that creepeth upon the earth, wherein I grant life, there shall be given every clean herb for meat" (Moses 2:29-30).
Josephus tells us regarding Daniel's superior diet: "Now Daniel and his kinsman had resolved to use a severe diet, and to abstain from those kinds of food which came from the king's table, and entirely to forebear to eat of all living creatures; ...but gave them pulse and dates for their food and anything else beside the flesh of living creatures that he pleased for that their inclinations were to that sort of food, and that they despised the other....those that were with Daniel looked as if they had lived in plenty, and in all sorts of luxury,...they had their souls in some measure more pure, and less burdened, and so fitter for learning, and had their bodies in better tune for hard labour;" "As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams. Nebuchadnezzar ...found none like (them)... in all matters of wisdom and understanding" (Dan.1:17-20).
The Prophet Joseph, during Zion's Camp, prevented the brethren from killing three rattlesnakes, saying, "Leave them alone. Don't hurt them! How will the serpent ever lose its venom, while the servants of God possess the same dispositions, and continue to make war upon it? Men must become harmless before the brute creation and when men lose their vicious dispositions and cease to destroy the animal race, the lion and the lamb can dwell together, and the suckling child can play with the serpent in safety." (History V.2, p.71 & TPJS p.71)
Brigham Young taught, "You mothers and daughters in Israel... You may think that these things are not of much importance; ...but let the people observe ...and lay the foundation for longevity,... Do you think they will stuff themselves then with... beef, pork... No; you will find they will live as our first parents did, on fruits and on a little simple food, and they will never overload the stomach... The strength, power, beauty, and glory that once adorned the form and constitution of man have vanished away before the blighting influences of inordinate appetite and love of this world. Then let us not trifle with our mission, by indulging in the use of injurious substances. These lay the foundation of disease and death in the systems of men, and the same are committed to their children, and another generation of feeble human beings is introduced into the world..." JD V.12 pp 37,118,119
Joseph Fielding Smith added, "This is my answer to you in relation to Pres. Brigham Young's statement that mothers should not feed their small children meat. Yes! Small children do not need the flesh of animals. ...when the Millennium reaches us, we will live above the need of killing dumb, innocent animals and eating them." (Letter, 30 Dec.1966)
Joseph F. Smith shares an interesting perspective, "The reason undoubtedly why the Word of Wisdom was given - as not by 'commandment or restraint' was that at that time, at least, If it had been given as a commandment it would have brought nearly every man, addicted to... these noxious things, under condemnation; so the Lord was merciful and gave them a chance to overcome, before He brought them under the law." (JD 12:118) If the Lord gave the millennial commandment now, most Americans would be under condemnation.
The Shakers, who forbade the eating of meat, were "not ordained of God." (D&C 49:18) Currently, in this telestial sphere the Lord has provided "...flesh also of beasts and of the fowls of the air, I, the Lord, have ordained for the use of man with thanksgiving; nevertheless they are to be used sparingly; and it is pleasing unto me that they should not be used, only in times of winter, or of cold, or famine. And these hath God made for the use of man only in times of famine and excess of hunger." These instructions were "adapted to the capacity of the weak and the weakest of all saints, who are or can be called saints." (D&C 89:3,12-13,15)
The Lord asks us to "serve him with all your heart, might, mind and strength ...with an eye single to His glory" (D&C 4:2,5) He will not force; it is our choice. The diet we choose to feed body, mind and spirit determines, in significant measure, what we are. Three times a day we sit at the altar of our table. Who do we worship? "Our whole social order could self-destruct over the obsession with freedom disconnected from responsibility, where choice is imagined to be somehow independent of consequences." (President Boyd K. Packer, General Conference, April 1996)
The Lord says, "If ye are not one ye are not mine." (D&C 38:27) The spirit of oneness includes the spirit of love and harmony with all the Lord's creations; it is the spirit of Zion. The scriptures are clear that there will be a Zion society "when men should keep all my commandments;" then can the City of Enoch come down to greet them. (JST Gen. 9:21-22) "The earth will tremble with joy" when man realizes there is "enough and to spare" as we respect, enjoy and thank the Lord for all that comes forth from the earth "for food and for raiment, for taste and for smell, to strengthen the body and to enliven the soul." (D&C 59:19) He is the vine; we are the branches. As we abide in Him, we can bring forth much fruit, for of ourselves we are nothing. (John 15:5) When we are obedient to His voice, "then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the Lord shall be thy rereward" (Isa.58:8)
"... your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost... therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit," (1 Cor. 6:19-20) "Come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness;...and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you,...that ye become holy, without spot" (Moro 10:32-33).
