Baptism with Fire

Introduction
FIRE is the Lord's cleansing tool. The wicked
are destroyed by fire; the Earth is cleansed by fire (its
baptism of the Spirit - having been baptized by water at the time of the flood).
The righteous are cleansed by fire as they come unto Christ and
are purged by His Atoning power. They become "new creatures" in Christ
- having the great load of sin taken from their shoulders. They become
"free indeed" - basking in the Light of His Love, and they have the
promise of the greatest of all the gifts of God (Eternal Life) as they continue
to hold Christ as their light and endure to the end. The baptism with fire
is administered by the Father, the Son, and/or the Holy Ghost, because they know
our hearts. Let us give our hearts to God and live.

Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that
cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he
shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
1 Corinthians 3:13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall
declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire
shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
Hebrews 1:7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and
his ministers a flame of fire.
1 Peter 1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of
gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be
found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
Revelation 1:14 His head and his hairs were white like
wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;
Revelation 2:18 And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These
things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire,
and his feet are like fine brass;
Revelation 3:18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire,
that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that
the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve,
that thou mayest see. (Receive Christ)
Revelation 19:12-13 His eyes were as a flame of fire,
and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no
man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in
blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
1 Nephi 1:6 And it came to pass as he prayed unto the Lord, there came a
pillar of fire and dwelt upon a rock before him; and he saw and
heard much; and because of the things which he saw and heard he did quake and
tremble exceedingly. (Lehi receives the vision of the tree of life and the
righteousness/wickedness of the people)
1 Nephi 15:30 And I said unto them that our father also saw that the justice
of God did also divide the wicked from the righteous; and the brightness thereof
was like unto the brightness of a flaming fire [of the
righteous] , which ascendeth up unto God forever and ever, and hath no end.
1 Nephi 22:17-20 Wherefore, he will preserve the righteous by his power, even
if it so be that the fulness of his wrath must come, and the righteous be
preserved, even unto the destruction of their enemies by fire.
Wherefore, the righteous need not fear; for thus saith the prophet, they shall
be saved, even if it so be as by fire. Behold, my
brethren, I say unto you, that these things must shortly come; yea, even blood,
and fire, and vapor of smoke must come; and it must needs be
upon the face of this earth; and it cometh unto men according to the flesh if it
so be that they will harden their hearts against the Holy One of Israel. For
behold, the righteous shall not perish; for the time surely must come that all
they who fight against Zion shall be cut off. And the Lord will surely prepare a
way for his people.
2 Nephi 30:10 For the time speedily cometh that the Lord God shall cause a
great division among the people, and the wicked will he destroy; and he will
spare his people, yea, even if it so be that he must destroy the wicked by fire.
2 Nephi 31:13-14 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, I know that if ye shall
follow the Son, with full purpose of heart, acting no hypocrisy and no deception
before God, but with real intent, repenting of your sins, witnessing unto the
Father that ye are willing to take upon you the name of Christ, by baptism--yea,
by following your Lord and your Savior down into the water, according to his
word, behold, then shall ye receive the Holy Ghost; yea, then cometh the baptism
of fire and of the Holy Ghost; and then can ye speak with the
tongue of angels, and shout praises unto the Holy One of Israel. But, behold, my
beloved brethren, thus came the voice of the Son unto me, saying: After ye have
repented of your sins, and witnessed unto the Father that ye are willing to keep
my commandments, by the baptism of water, and have received the baptism of fire
and of the Holy Ghost, and can speak with a new tongue, yea, even with the
tongue of angels, and after this should deny me, it would have been better for
you that ye had not known me.
2 Nephi 31:17 Wherefore, do the things which I have told you I have seen that
your Lord and your Redeemer should do; for, for this cause have they been shown
unto me, that ye might know the gate by which ye should enter. For the gate by
which ye should enter is repentance and baptism by water; and then cometh a
remission of your sins by fire and by the Holy Ghost.
Helaman 5:23-24 And it came to pass that Nephi and Lehi were encircled about
as if by fire, even insomuch that they durst not lay their
hands upon them for fear lest they should be burned. Nevertheless, Nephi and
Lehi were not burned; and they were as standing in the midst of fire
and were not burned. And when they saw that they were encircled about with a
pillar of fire, and that it burned them not, their hearts did
take courage. (see Daniel chapter 3 for a similar experience)
3 Nephi 11:35 Verily, verily, I say unto you, that this is my doctrine, and I
bear record of it from the Father; and whoso believeth in me believeth in the
Father also; and unto him will the Father bear record of me, for he will visit
him with fire and with the Holy Ghost.
3 Nephi 12:1-2 And it came to pass that when Jesus had spoken these words
unto Nephi, and to those who had been called, now the number of them who had
been called, and received power and authority to baptize, was twelve) and
behold, he stretched forth his hand unto the multitude, and cried unto them,
saying: Blessed are ye if ye shall give heed unto the words of these twelve whom
I have chosen from among you to minister unto you, and to be your servants; and
unto them I have given power that they may baptize you with water; and after
that ye are baptized with water, behold, I will baptize you with fire
and with the Holy Ghost; therefore blessed are ye if ye shall believe in me and
be baptized, after that ye have seen me and know that I am. And again, more
blessed are they who shall believe in your words because that ye shall testify
that ye have seen me, and that ye know that I am. Yea, blessed are they who
shall believe in your words, and come down into the depths of humility and be
baptized, for they shall be visited with fire and with the Holy
Ghost, and shall receive a remission of their sins.
3 Nephi 17:24 And as they looked to behold they cast their eyes towards
heaven, and they saw the heavens open, and they saw angels descending out of
heaven as it were in the midst of fire; and they came down and
encircled those little ones about, and they were encircled about with fire;
and the angels did minister unto them.
3 Nephi 19:13-14 And it came to pass when they were all baptized and had come
up out of the water, the Holy Ghost did fall upon them, and they were filled
with the Holy Ghost and with fire. And behold, they were
encircled about as if it were by fire; and it came down from
heaven, and the multitude did witness it, and did bear record; and angels did
come down out of heaven and did minister unto them.
3 Nephi 22:16 Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire,
and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the
waster to destroy.
3 Nephi 24:2-3 But who may abide the day of his coming, and who shall stand
when he appeareth? For he is like a refiner's fire, and like
fuller's soap. And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; and he
shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may
offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.
3 Nephi 27:20 Now this is the commandment: Repent, all ye ends of the earth,
and come unto me and be baptized in my name, that ye may be sanctified [with fire]by
the reception of the Holy Ghost, that ye may stand spotless before me at the
last day.
Mormon 7:10 And ye will also know that ye are a remnant of the seed of Jacob;
therefore ye are numbered among the people of the first covenant; and if it so
be that ye believe in Christ, and are baptized, first with water, then with fire
and with the Holy Ghost, following the example of our Savior, according to that
which he hath commanded us, it shall be well with you in the day of judgment.
Amen.
Mormon 9:1-5 And now, I speak also concerning those who do not believe in
Christ. Behold, will ye believe in the day of your visitation--behold, when the
Lord shall come, yea, even that great day when the earth shall be rolled
together as a scroll, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, yea, in
that great day when ye shall be brought to stand before the Lamb of God--then
will ye say that there is no God? Then will ye longer deny the Christ, or can ye
behold the Lamb of God? Do ye suppose that ye shall dwell with him under a
consciousness of your guilt? Do ye suppose that ye could be happy to dwell with
that holy Being, when your souls are racked with a consciousness of guilt that
ye have ever abused his laws? Behold, I say unto you that ye would be more
miserable to dwell with a holy and just God, under a consciousness of your
filthiness before him, than ye would to dwell with the damned souls in hell. For
behold, when ye shall be brought to see your nakedness before God, and also the
glory of God, and the holiness of Jesus Christ, it will kindle a flame of
unquenchable fire upon you.
Ether 4:9 And at my command the heavens are opened and are shut; and at my
word the earth shall shake; and at my command the inhabitants thereof shall pass
away, even so as by fire.
Ether 12:14 Behold, it was the faith of Nephi and Lehi that wrought the
change upon the Lamanites, that they were baptized with fire
and with the Holy Ghost.
D&C 19:31 And of tenets thou shalt not talk, but thou shalt declare
repentance and faith on the Savior, and remission of sins by baptism, and by fire,
yea, even the Holy Ghost.
D&C 20:41 And to confirm those who are baptized into the church, by the
laying on of hands for the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost,
according to the scriptures;
D&C 29:12 And again, verily, verily, I say unto you, and it hath gone
forth in a firm decree, by the will of the Father, that mine apostles, the
Twelve which were with me in my ministry at Jerusalem, shall stand at my right
hand at the day of my coming in a pillar of fire, being clothed
with robes of righteousness, with crowns upon their heads, in glory even as I
am, to judge the whole house of Israel, even as many as have loved me and kept
my commandments, and none else.
D&C 33:11 Yea, repent and be baptized, every one of you, for a remission
of your sins; yea, be baptized even by water, and then cometh the baptism of fire
and of the Holy Ghost.
D&C 36:5-6 ...preach the everlasting gospel among the nations - Crying
repentance, saying: Save yourselves from this untoward generation, and come
forth out of the fire, hating even the garments spotted with
the flesh.
D&C 39:6 And this is my gospel--repentance and baptism by water, and then
cometh the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost, even the
Comforter, which showeth all things, and teacheth the peaceable things of the
kingdom.
D&C 43:30-34 For the great Millennium, of which I have spoken by the
mouth of my servants, shall come. For Satan shall be bound, and when he is
loosed again he shall only reign for a little season, and then cometh the end of
the earth. And he that liveth in righteousness shall be changed in the twinkling
of an eye, and the earth shall pass away so as by fire. And the
wicked shall go away into unquenchable fire, and their end no
man knoweth on earth, nor ever shall know, until they come before me in
judgment. Hearken ye to these words. Behold, I am Jesus Christ, the Savior of
the world. Treasure these things up in your hearts, and let the solemnities of
eternity rest upon your minds.
D&C 45:57 For they that are wise and have received the truth, and have
taken the Holy Spirit for their guide, and have not been deceived--verily I say
unto you, they shall not be hewn down and cast into the fire,
but shall abide the day.
Joseph Smith Jr.'s prayer at the dedication of the Kirtland temple, which was
prophetic and literally fulfilled: D&C 109:34-36 O Jehovah, have mercy upon
this people, and as all men sin forgive the transgressions of thy people, and
let them be blotted out forever. Let the anointing of thy ministers be sealed
upon them with power from on high. Let it be fulfilled upon them, as upon those
on the day of Pentecost; let the gift of tongues be poured out upon thy people,
even cloven tongues as of fire, and the interpretation thereof.
Later, as the Savior appeared to the Prophet Joseph and to Oliver Cowdery in
the Kirtland temple: D&C 110:3-5 His eyes were as a flame of fire;
the hair of his head was white like the pure snow; his countenance shone above
the brightness of the sun; and his voice was as the sound of the rushing of
great waters, even the voice of Jehovah, saying: I am the first and the last; I
am he who liveth, I am he who was slain; I am your advocate with the Father.
Behold, your sins are forgiven you; you are clean before me; therefore, lift up
your heads and rejoice.
D&C 128:24 Behold, the great day of the Lord is at hand; and who can
abide the day of his coming, and who can stand when he appeareth? For he is like
a refiner's fire, and like fuller's soap; and he shall sit as a
refiner and purifier of silver, and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge
them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in
righteousness. Let us, therefore, as a church and a people, and as Latter-day
Saints, offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness; and let us present in
his holy temple, when it is finished, a book containing the records of our dead,
which shall be worthy of all acceptation.
Speaking of Celestial realms: D&C 130:7-11 But they reside in the
presence of God, on a globe like a sea of glass and fire, where
all things for their glory are manifest, past, present, and future, and are
continually before the Lord. The place where God resides is a great Urim and
Thummim. This earth, in its sanctified and immortal state, will be made like
unto crystal and will be a Urim and Thummim to the inhabitants who dwell
thereon, whereby all things pertaining to an inferior kingdom, or all kingdoms
of a lower order, will be manifest to those who dwell on it; and this earth will
be Christ's. Then the white stone mentioned in Revelation 2:17, will become a
Urim and Thummim to each individual who receives one, whereby things pertaining
to a higher order of kingdoms will be made known; And a white stone is given to
each of those who come into the celestial kingdom, whereon is a new name
written, which no man knoweth save he that receiveth it. The new name is the key
word.
D&C 133:41-45 And it shall be answered upon their heads; for the presence
of the Lord shall be as the melting fire that burneth, and as
the fire which causeth the waters to boil. O Lord, thou shalt
come down to make thy name known to thine adversaries, and all nations shall
tremble at thy presence-- When thou doest terrible things, things they look not
for; Yea, when thou comest down, and the mountains flow down at thy presence,
thou shalt meet him who rejoiceth and worketh righteousness, who remembereth
thee in thy ways. For since the beginning of the world have not men heard nor
perceived by the ear, neither hath any eye seen, O God, besides thee, how great
things thou hast prepared for him that waiteth for thee.
D&C 137:2-9 I saw the transcendent beauty of the gate through which the
heirs of that kingdom [Celestial]will enter, which was like unto circling flames
of fire; Also the blazing throne of God, whereon was seated the
Father and the Son. I saw the beautiful streets of that kingdom, which had the
appearance of being paved with gold. I saw Father Adam and Abraham; and my
father and my mother; my brother Alvin, that has long since slept; And marveled
how it was that he had obtained an inheritance in that kingdom, seeing that he
had departed this life before the Lord had set his hand to gather Israel the
second time, and had not been baptized for the remission of sins. Thus came the
voice of the Lord unto me, saying: All who have died without a knowledge of this
gospel, who would have received it if they had been permitted to tarry, shall be
heirs of the celestial kingdom of God; Also all that shall die henceforth
without a knowledge of it, who would have received it with all their hearts,
shall be heirs of that kingdom; For I, the Lord, will judge all men according to
their works, according to the desire of their hearts.
Moses 6:65-68 And thus he was baptized, and the Spirit of God descended upon
him, and thus he was born of the Spirit, and became quickened in the inner man.
And he heard a voice out of heaven, saying: Thou art baptized with fire,
and with the Holy Ghost. This is the record of the Father, and the Son, from
henceforth and forever; And thou art after the order of him who was without
beginning of days or end of years, from all eternity to all eternity. Behold,
thou art one in me, a son of God; and thus may all become my sons. Amen.
