Gifts of God
Anthology of scriptures on the subject.
by David W. Allan, Jan. 2003
And again I would exhort you that ye would come unto Christ, and lay hold
upon every good gift, and touch not the evil gift, nor the unclean thing.
-- Moroni 10:30
ETERNAL LIFE The greatest of all the gifts offered by the Father through His Son. All
other gifts are for the purpose of helping us gain the greatest gift. (1 Ne. 15:36; John 3:16)
LOVE to give, to receive, and to know that we are loved. This all dimensioned love is charity,
which is the pure love of Christ. Pray for it with all the energy of heart...(Moroni 7:47-48; 1 Cor.
13:)
FAITH Leads us to know the Father and the Son, their character and attributes, and that the
course we are pursuing is according to the Fathers will. (Moroni 10:23-25; Lectures on Faith, and
1 Cor. 12:9)
HOPE is the wellspring leading to salvation. If we have no hope, we are in despair,... and
despair cometh because of iniquity. (Moroni 10:19-23)
HOLY GHOST ...is the gift of God unto all those who diligently seek him, He will witness
of the Father and the Son. ...will keep us from being deceived. Teach us the truth. Enlightens our
minds. Bring all things to our remembrance. Testifies of the truth. Reproves sin. The Comforter. The
fruits of the Spirit are love, joy and peace. Sanctifies us. Purifies us. Teaches us all things what
we should do to know the will of the Father for us. (1 Ne. 10:17; John 14-16; Gal. 5:22; T.G.; 3
Ne 19:9)
Gifts enumerated in 1 Cor. 12; Moro. 10; and D&C 46:
...to know that Jesus is the Christ
...to believe on the testimony of others
...to know the differences of administration
...to know the diversities of operation
...of teaching wisdom
...of teaching knowledge
...of healing
...to be healed
...to work mighty miracles
...of prophesy
...of beholding of angels
...of ministering of spirits
...of discerning of spirits
...of interpretation of languages
...of speaking in tongues
...of interpretation of tongues
...of discerning of gifts
In ADDITION there are other important gifts we should seek:
...of revelation knowing and listening to the Spirit.
...of humility, that we may hear and know the truth when spoken to us and to learn to listen with
love.
...to hunger and thirst after righteousness.
...to be forgiving and merciful with no resentments.
...to be pure in heart (having the spirit of Zion).
...to be a peacemaker (gentleness).
...to be grateful for all things.
...to be temperate, patient, diligent, kind
Following paths of righteousness fosters the gifts of God. If there are no gifts, it is because of
iniquity: (Mormon 1:14.)
...turn ye unto the Lord; cry mightily unto the Father in the name of Jesus, that perhaps ye may
be found spotless, pure, fair, and white, having been cleansed by the blood of the Lamb, at that
great and last day. ...unto you who deny the revelations of God, and say ...there are no
revelations, nor prophecies, nor gifts,... ...he that denieth these things knoweth not the gospel of
Christ; yea, he has not read the scriptures; if so, he does not understand them. (Morm. 9:6-8)
