Jeffrey A. Lorbeck was born in Milwaukee,
WI, on December 30, 1963. He received the B.S.E.E., M.S.E.E., and Ph.D.E.E. degrees
from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1987, 1988, and 1992, respectively, where he
was supported under the Magnetic Fusion Energy Technology Fellowship Program administered
for the U.S. Department of Energy by Oak Ridge Associated Universities and also under a
University of Wisconsin-Madison Prize Fellowship. His graduate and post-doctoral
research activities included development of quasi-optical mode transformers for
high-energy microwave devices used in electron-cyclotron resonance heating of
thermo-nuclear plasmas. He currently works on satellite communications in the
Wireless Systems Division of QUALCOMM, Incorporated in San Diego, CA.
